ORPHAN ALLIES - Running From The Law LP

US 1986 POWER HEAVY METAL. RARE 1986 FRENCH LP on Dream Records. With 6 pages PROMO insert!!!

I just find this version on the web, but I don't have it in stock, so the question is: Is the 6 pages promo insert a publicity for the label Dream Records?, or 6 pages 100% Orphan Allies story????

It's an interesting question! Because it's difficult to find any little bio about them!

If you have any info about it, I'm really interesting!!! Of course I don't dream, but I hope one day we can put a scan of this insert here!

Thanks for any help!

Dean Manager & Producer

Exclusive message:

Hello,
And thank you so much for the tribute you posted for EV and Orphan Allies. I had the pleasure of managing this band and producing a couple of their songs and videos for about 2 years. ( circa 1985 I think ) What great times we had and what awesome creativity and talent this band possessed. I look back a the American Boys video we shot in Indiana and smile when I see my friend Ox catching EV as she jumped off the back of the pickup truck. Hahaha we practiced that 6 times!
Anybody who knows this band knows we tore it up at the Thirsty Whale and the Fox Lake fest and the smattering of other shows we did. Mike S, Laith, Rick and Jim played their hearts out and I'm happy to say I was a part. I still have the artwork, posters and even the pins we wore, and every once in awhile I pop in the old cassette, crank it up and can't help thinking, yeah, this was the one that got away folks.
Just listen to it. You can hear the magic.
R.I.P. EV and my buddy OX. You were unique and touched our lives. We love you.
Peace
Dean

Little Orphan E.V by  Dean

Dean, why Evie found this artist name 'Little Orphan E.V.?  What is the meaning of this nickname?

EV ( Evelyn Camp ) from what I know of her was essentially a country girl from Indiana who evolved into a singer. Her name Little Orphan EV comes from the fact that she was in fact an orphan and never knew her biological family. She and I grew to be great friends and in fact she would reside at my house whenever she was in the Chicago area. We spent many hours together discussing music, the direction of the band and her career and life in general.

She and I also did extensive work in the studio on her solo efforts.  She was highly creative, energetic and extremely sensual. She was a guiding creative force for the band and was very much responsible for it's overall image, sound and dynamic. I too only heard of her passing about 1 year ago. I had no idea or the cause. I am very sad for that. I am somewhat shocked to hear she is buried in Graceland.

EVELYN ROSE CAMP

- FRENCH TRIBUTE -

THIS IS A MEMORIAL WEB SITE DEDICATED TO THIS ARTIST.

- GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN -

- Little Orphan E.V. was probably her first artist name in the Heavy Metal Band : ORPHAN ALLIES from Chicago. She was the lead singer maybe during 1982 to the end of 1986. Their 1st and only album 'Running From The Law (1986) was published in a french label 'Dream Records'. You can see on Youtube 'American Boys' and 'It's Over' two great songs. This album is still a master piece for the underground fans over the world!

Little Orphan E.V. had an amazing great voice with a powerful and sensual touch. The band played a perfect Heavy Metal, with a cool melodic feeling.

This album, is still only available in LP version, sometime is possible to see a bootleg version on CD with 2 other bands 'US Metal Vol 11', this one could from Greece. And probably published in 2005.

After 31 years I'm still a big french fan of this band!

Sadly, we probably never have an official CD version of this album, and impossible to find demos, audio shows, pictures.... any help is really welcome!

Evie

- It was really a big surprise to learn that Evelyne was also known in other musical styles! Not only the female voice of a Heavy Metal band, but also in the House music!!

In 1986 by the way of Geffen company, and distribued by WEA (!!!) you can find a maxi single BANG ORCHESTRA! with the song 'Sample That!' (2 diff maxi versions) which went to no. 5 on the Billboard Dance Chart in 1986! It's absolutely a new start in the music business with this success, her artist name was now E.V.

Sadly, E.V says the label thought Bang Orchestra's sounds were too underground to release a complete album, So E.V start after a second Maxi single with Bang Orchestra! a new project under this new artist name 'Evie' on Trax label (Chicago famous House label). Two good songs 'Stay The Night' (produced by BANG ORCHESTRA) and a cover of Yazoo 'Situation Don't Go'.

Any informations about these projects are welcome!

Evie Camp

- Evie was not only a singer or a songwriter, she was also a producer of young artist as DESTRY 'Did You Find A Heart' (1990) he was credited as 'The new sensation... at only 25, DESTRY is the exceptional result of Desire Records. This fusion of Chicago house and DESTRY's seductive and soulful vocals has already begun to erupt on the dancefloors throughout the capital' Writers Evelyn Camp & Destry, produced by Evelyn Camp for J.X Bang, recorded at Chicago Trax Recording.

As singer, Evelyn is now in early '90 in a new way with some Industrial Music projects, you can listen her on the KMFDM song 'Sex On The Flag' (from the '12 mix) and two songs from EXCESSIVE FORCE project 'Divebomb' and 'Gentle Death'.

As we can read on the web: 'Evie losing her mind in the new millennium. Unfortunately she left us too early just when her life was getting back on track.'

Merci.

Chronique de Grogwy

Publiée sur le site 'Spirit Of Metal'

https://www.spirit-of-metal.com/fr/album/Running_from_the_Law/128440

New Wave Of British Heavy Metal).

Here LAST FM Little Biography:

ORPHAN ALLIES were a female fronted Heavy Metal/Hard Rock quintet formed in Chicago, Illinois, USA in 1982.

Their only release was the full length "Running From The Law" LP, released by French label Dream Records in 1986. The outstanding vocals of Little Orphan E.V. are the most impressive aspect of the bands sound. There are several good songs spread throughout the record, but the poor production does the record no favours, giving the tracks a samey feel. Even so, it's become a much sought after collectors piece, with copies going at around $60-$80 US nowadays.

ENFER MAGAZINE

(French 1st Hard Rock Magazine 100 000 copies each month!!!!!!! 'Enfer = Hell in french!')

N°47 April 1987

Bang Orchestra

ARTICLE FROM THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE . COM
June 22, 1990

Personnel: Evie, vocals, programming; Mimi Wallman, keyboards, vocals;

Laura Boton, percussion, samples, vocals.

Formed: 1986 by Vince Lawrence and Evie.

Re-formed: January 1990, with current lineup.

History: The first Bang Orchestra was signed to Geffen Records and released the single ``Sample That,`` which went to No. 5 on the Billboard Dance chart in 1986. But Evie says the label thought Bang`s sounds were too underground to release on an album, so the band ended up recording independent singles for Trax Records. After Lawrence and Evie formed the production company J.X. Bang and concentrated more on producing other artists, they quit making Bang Orchestra records in late 1987.

Traumatic experience: ``I went scuba diving in November, and I drowned,`` Evie says. ``When I drowned I died. I took a walk in that tunnel everybody talks about.`` Although she had a collapsed lung, she was revived. ``Once you`re dead and come back, there`s some sense of urgency in doing what you want to do,`` she says. ``I longed to be working on my own material and performing live.``

Sound: Evie calls it ``technosexy. We`re a new style of band. I consider us part of the rock genre but we use new technology to do it.``

Songwriting: All three members write.

Live setup: ``Part of the band is sequenced, and part is played live,``

Evie says. ``The machine does the monotonous work of keeping a straight beat, and we get to have the fun.``

Influences: ``Aerosmith and Depeche Mode,`` Evie says.

In-concert cover versions: Santana`s ``Evil Ways.``

Namesake: Lawrence says he was programming strings for the singer Grant, and when Grant heard the sounds he said, ``Man, that stuff`s bangin`.``

Recordings: Nothing yet, though Evie says the group may record soon.

Philosophy: ``We`re not political, and we`re not fashion statements,'

Evie says. ``We`re not sweet, and we`re not too bad either. We`re a band that wants to get the audience participating and dancing with us and getting sweaty and going home tired and sleeping well.``

Goals: ``I would like to attain another record deal eventually, so I can get my music out there,`` Evie says, adding that she wants Bang Orchestra to open for big acts rather than to play the club scene. ``A lot of times (club owners) are not interested in your music. They`re more interested in selling their alcohol.``

As we can see Evie still use here her first artist name 'Little Orphan E.V. !

Project: EVIE - Just Stay The Night – Maxi Single & Single

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXPAhyIJf1Q

Trax Records is probably the most important House music label of all time. Created in Chicago in 1985, the independent imprint quickly became the go-to company for anyone who was making House music in Chicago from 1984 onwards.

Great release that I immediately liked and perhaps mostly in this case because of it's Trax rawness.  This seemed so raw, underground, and to me captured in some way the Chicago spirit. A cover version of course of the Yazoo (Yaz) tracks 'Don't Go' and 'Situation'.

It's the only silver factory version of the album. Sometime that's possible to see it on Ebay, but it's a rare version, and not easy to find. The sound is probably a rip of the LP, the sound is good, and it's not the case with Leather Angel mini-album, what is this terrible noisy sound?!! For sure we are more lucky with the Orphan Allies part. Sadly, there is no official CD version. In my dreams, I hope one day we can find a REMASTER version of 'Running From The Law', now this album is really in the legend of US HM fronted by a female, and also why not a reissue in LP with a quality work, 180 gr version with lyrics! Like the Ivory Tiger LP !!! Yes, please note when we not speak english, it's not easy to understand!! So one day if someone have the lyrics of this album, it could be really nice!

US METAL (American Legend) is a serie of unofficial CD with rares bands, this Vol 11, have three bands as you can read in the front cover, Raven Bitch, Orphan Allies and Leather ANgel, all these bands are fronted by a female singer. The ref CD is AZ 158/011.

A VERY SPECIAL THANKS TO THE GRACELAND CEMETERY SERVICE & ASSOCIATE-DIRECTOR

Message from Graceland Cemetery Service:

' We have mapped out Evelyn’s grave location to be found with Google maps on our burial search page.  This was not mapped because we do not have all sections mapped in our system; we still have about 25,000 individuals who are not mapped.  This is a very extensive and expensive project that has taken years to complete and is an ongoing process.  It was not due to the fact that we do not find her important.

Sadly, I went to go check on the site and Evelyn does not have a headstone or any marker at all. Evelyn’s official location is Section “Edgewood”, Lot 1 / ReSub A, Grave #6.'

2009 - LAITH ALANI - Gas station serves up sweets, tea, mittens and love

For the last 20 years, customer Carrie Farella has been getting everything she needs from the Mundelein Shell station owned by Laith Alani. On Valentine's Day, they will be getting married.

For 20 years, hospice nurse Carrie Farella would stop into her local Shell station for gas - and coffee, little boxes of those Hostess chocolate Donettes, milk, newspapers, kitty litter, mittens, sandwiches and, in recent years, a relaxing cup of tea.

"You could easily make your own tea at home, but I come in for the chitchat," says the Hawthorn Woods divorced mom of three daughters. "You have a bad day, you come in here. It's a real social place in the morning. It's a place where everyone knows your name."

Station owner Laith Alani, who has spent the last 27 years at this Mundelein gas station started by his father at the corner of Midlothian and Gilmer roads, makes sure of that.

"I know most of my customers," says Laith, who sticks the business cards of regular customers under the glass on his counter. "I ask them what their name is. It's good business. People feel welcome when you know their name. It's a very social place. The guys who come in for coffee in the morning stay an hour-and-a-half."

Carrie feels more than welcome.

"We have been friends for so long," she says.

During the two decades they have known each other, they'd reveal little snippets of their lives.

"Sometimes it was just a 'Hey, take care,'" Carrie notes. "Other times, we tried to help each other out."

Before Laith's divorce six years ago, Carrie gave him the name of a marriage counselor whom she and her husband were seeing. After Carrie separated from her husband three years ago, Laith hooked her up with a Realtor, loan company, fix-it specialist and painter.

Carrie and Laith would sit under the fluorescent lights of the bustling gas station and sip their teas.

"We'd flirt a little bit," Laith admits.

"I'm serving beer at the Octoberfest. Why don't you come by?" Laith asked Carrie one day in 2006.

"Maybe I will," Carrie said.

That night, as she sat at home, fretting about what to do, her oldest daughter piped up.

"Oh, just go," she told her mom. "You're not going to marry him."

That first meeting away from the station led to a regular tea time at the station. Carrie and Laith would meet at the Shell for hot tea with cream as they started their days.

Sharing their love of music, Laith, now 50, told her about his days as a guitar player. While he played lots of festivals with legendary local rock band, The Shadows of Knight, a young Laith can still be found with big hair and tight pants on YouTube playing heavy metal riffs with his band Orphan Allies (they were big in France) during the early 1980s.

"I remember sneaking into the Thirsty Whale on River Road (I was under 21) and remember him in leather pants shredding guitar on stage," recalls Carrie, who is now 47. "But I never knew his name."

The station's deli manager, Melissa Karnuth, saw what was happening between her boss and her customer.

"I thought it was great. They just clicked," Melissa says. "I could tell they were pleased with each other's company."

More than pleased.

"Our love grew along with the gas prices," Carrie says.

"They were excited like kids again - which made my life easier," Melissa says with a laugh. "They are the most giving people I've ever met. They deserve to be together."

On Valentine's Day they will be married by the chaplain from the hospice where Carrie works as a pediatric nurse.

"It's just weird the way it turned out. She's a great gal," Laith says of his longtime customer and soon-to-be bride.

"I had a feeling he was a really good guy," Carrie says of the friendly face who will complete her "love at the gas pumps" romantic story. "Twenty years, tons of Hostess products and too much fuel to count - we're lucky to have a second chance at love."

Oh, and one other thing has changed, too.

"I just give him my keys and the car on empty," Carrie says, "and it comes back full."
